Compressed Thoughts

It was particularly bad senior year, where I had calculus first period, so all of my calculus homework was usually done within the 10-20 minutes I had between my bus arriving, and class starting. It's funny isn't it? Even when you're at home, and you have literally nothing to do, now it's the perfect opportunity to do your homework right? Yeah, but you won't do it and you know it.

Homework is literally the same as schoolwork, except it's usually given towards the end of class, with the idea being, that you'll do it at home. You don't have to, you could do it at school between classes, during lunch, etc, but obviously that's where the name comes from. Schoolwork (for most people) is quite easy to do, at least in the sense that, it's easy to get yourself to do it, even working on things during other classes or between classes, is usually pretty easy for most, yet once you get home it becomes exponentially harder.

So why is that? Is it some form of work/home life separation? That could make sense, and it is quite healthy to separate work and home life, but in the case of homework it's still detrimental if you don't do it. You begin a weird balancing act, of trying to accomplish the work you've been tasked with, and trying to keep work at work. I imagine it's even harder for people who both, go to school, and have jobs. Sometimes I find it extremely hard to stop what I'm doing, or get up from my current location, and get homework out of my bag. And at the same time, even if my work is digital, I find it hard to begin sometimes. It seems silly, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to just sit down at my computer, and start doing work - yet I can sit down at my computer and work on my website for hours on end.

There isn't much of a point to this post, and I'm not gonna end on a call to action telling everyone to do their homework. You're an adult, choose what to do with your own life, I just feel like raising some questions. For those who aren't aware, while I've never done any of this academically, I do tend to dabble in psychology from time to time. Not in a structured environment, but rather, just what I'm able to observe in my day-to-day life. I enjoy pondering why people do the things they do, and how people act. As you go about your day, try to notice things, and think about them. Question thigns, question people, question yourself. Or don't, I don't care, it's just something to do if you're bored.
